Janitors are essential at every place of business, school building and public area. They are behind the scenes workers who do not often get recognized for their arduous work, but without them, everything would be a mess
What Makes Janitors Special?
They perform the same duties at the same sites repeatedly without fail.
It can be monotonous to clean the same place on a regular basis, but janitors who are good at what they do make the most of the consistency by improving their quality and speed each time they return for the same job. When cleaners reach an exceedingly prominent level of quality in their performance, it is reflective of how much they care about their impact and about seeing results that matter to clients.
Janitors are Selfless.
It is humbling to clean toilets and trash cans and pick up after others all day long. Cleaning fecal matter and other bodily fluids and substances is not an easy thing to do, and janitors do this in the day to day as needed. Most janitors do not know what they will be cleaning up until they start working, because anything can happen after their last cleaning.
Often, nobody will recognize that extra work went into cleaning up a severe problem, because cleanliness is often an expectation rather than something to be singled out and appreciated. It is easy to forget that a place is clean because someone cleaned it and made it so. The willingness of a person to do janitorial work and care about that work is incredible.
They are Thorough.
You may not think about cleaning behind a trash can or cleaning the inside of it after the bag has been removed, but janitors think of all those things and more. They do not just merely pick things up off the ground or take out the garbage, they scrape, sanitize, disinfect, wipe off, mop, scrub, vacuum, polish and inspect to double-check the quality of their efforts. Sometimes the job is simple and sometimes it is more complex, but either way, the janitor takes every job seriously and focuses on the details of the job at hand.
They are a Comfort to have Around.
There is peace of mind when you see someone mopping up or sanitizing surfaces at a place of business. It makes customers and clients more trusting of the environment and the company they are interacting with. Trust is essential in any place of business and if a customer does not think their health and safety are a priority, it might make them question how a company manages all other areas of their business. Every aspect of a business can be critiqued by a customer or potential customer and lack of cleanliness can often be a dealbreaker.
They are Frontline Workers.
Throughout 2020 and into 2021, janitors continued their work. This means they worked through COVID-19, disinfecting buildings to help keep others safe. Just by showing up to work this year, when they could have opted out and stayed home, they are showing just how much other people’s health and safety mean to them. They truly are our everyday superheroes.
They are Always Learning New Techniques.
If we have learned anything from the increased need for thorough cleaning, we have learned that cleaning does not stay the same. There are improved cleaning and sanitizing formulas that are safer and more effective that come out every year. There are new tools and machines implemented into cleaning routines to clean more efficiently. There are new methods to monitor how often a place has been cleaned. Here at MSNW, we join Spartan Chemical seminars to stay up to date with new practices that we may choose to transfer into our regular services. When we bring in recently developed products, up-to-date equipment or innovative technology, we always train our workers, so they continue to perform safe and satisfactory work for our customers.
They Work Hard Despite Challenges.
This last year has been extra challenging for janitorial staff because equipment and cleaning supplies were difficult to have on hand when so much of it was out of stock and impossible to purchase. This can make it exceedingly difficult for janitorial staff to do their job effectively. Imagine not have a computer to send emails from or a cash register to manage customer payments. Supplies are essential for janitorial staff to do their job right.
Some businesses did not know if or when their doors would open, so janitorial professionals were often called in last minute, working day and night, so their business could continue operations without delay.
Cleaning is time-consuming and laborious work that cannot be neglected for long. This last year has opened many people’s eyes to these valuable employees who labor tirelessly to ensure health and safety for all.
